Feature Business: Original Mischief

I will be featuring the businesses that are contributing to the promotional gift bags that I have been discussing for a while, here on the blog. The first business is Original Mischief.

Monique of Original Mischief is the creator of the designer gift bags, pictured below:

There are 12 of these designer gift-bags. They are made from vintage terry towelling fabric and are 6 inches by 6 inches and are lined. The handles are 14 inches long so that they are comfortable in anyone's hand.

Original Mischief: "Hip handmades using vintage and retro fabrics... because every body deserves a little mischief!"

Monique makes gorgeous original pillows and cushions, totes, clutches and bags, and girls' and women's clothing.

Original Mischief can also be found on:

Monique was one of the first people to get involved in this project.  She saw my vision and ran with it. Monique was patient with me while I made changes to the order size (from 18 to 12 as we couldn't get any financial sponsors to help cover the costs of the bags), and then she worked like a demon to get the bags made and on their way to me.

8 of  these bags will be filled with a selection of quality items, provided by other WAHMs and small business owners, to be delivered to a small number of celebrities at the upcoming Sydney Supanova (June 17-19). I will be personally handing these bags to the celebs and if possible taking photos of them with the bags. 2 of these bags will be given to Supanova Staff and the lest 2 will be auctioned off to try to recover costs (all containing the same items as the bags for the celebs).

I chose to ask Monique to make the bags as she is a friend and I love her designs. Monique did let me know that paper gift bags were a lot cheaper, but I wanted a gift that would be a collector's item in it's own right. I wanted something that would be re-useable and hence eco friendly. I also chose Monique as she is a fellow WAHM and if I'm going to spend money I would prefer the money to go to another WAHM.

Thank you Monique. I look forward to any future projects that we may work on.

update on promo bags

My tickets are booked for Supanova. I'm very excited. :)

Tomorrow I will pay the deposit for 12 designer gift bags to be made by my friend Monique of Original Mischief. I have decided to only take 12 bags as there has been little interest in businesses that want to financially sponsor the bags. I am also looking for a business that can provide small iconic soft toys (eg koala, bilby kangaroos, preferably keyring size), postcards (preferably featuring Sydney but australia for sure) and tim-tams (in the two serve packs or the bars). And I am looking for good quality pics of australia to use on the promo disks for the celeb gifts bags .... at this point i cannot pay you for them but you will recieve full credit on the disk and blogs and they will be watermarked etc for your protection.

I am still hoping to have businesses come on board and sponsor the bags. There will be 10 bags to sponsor as two of the bags are being auctioned to cover costs. I was asked why businesses would want to sponsor the bags. I have explained that before; I want to help people get some exposure for their businesses. I will be putting these bags into the hands of several celebrities (and 2 of Supanoava's staff members). I will try to take pics of the celebs with their bahs. I am restricting the contents of these bags to help ensure that the bags or contents will not end up discarded as often happens with showbags. The items need to be able to be carried with a large amount of luggage etc.

So businesses that sponsor finacially will be included on the promo disks and gift-card (plus mentioned on the blogs). I was told that people may not want to watch the disks. I will be making these discs as interesting as possible (including photos of Australia).

Happy Mothers' Day

Happy Mothers' Day :)

Mothers Day Gift.
Mothers Day Clipart by Mothers Day Central

I am very lucky to still have my Mum, although I don't see her often. Some years I get to see her for Mothers' Day; some years I don't ... although I always try to speak with her on Mothers' Day. It's not always easy though as my Mum does have a life. :)

My Grandma isn't here anymore and I do miss her, so I know that my mum must really miss her too.

I try not to have high expectations for "special" days as it's too easy to go wrong. Even so, there are many Mothers' days (and birthdays) that I end up feeling less than special; mostly because everybody us still the same so there are the same complaints and power games from the kids, the same problems with my partner etc etc. Even if I vow to let it all slide off me like water off a Zen Duck I am still guaranteed to lose my temper half a dozen times on the day. My kids still have temper tantrums, acts of defiance etc..... and my partner is still his same old self (though he does try a little to tone it down). I think next year I will have no expectations at all. I know that I sound spoiled and ungrateful but every day around here is world war III or more... and I am constantly stressed at the best of times. I have the heavier share of the house work and I cop a lot of the blame for the way things are in this house. So one (or possibly 2) days a year to feel special shouldn't be asking to much. I'm expected to make everyone else's special fays magickal (at Easter i was told off by my eldest son for asking him to do chores on Easter).

I am thankful for the small gestures; the hand made cards and pressies, the special breakfast etc etc so ut's not all doom and gloom but there are still parts of the day where I think taking the dog for a sex hour walk might be something I should do, now.

Last year my partner was riding his pushbike to Brisbane (from Molong NSW) to raise funds and awareness for a special little girl. I don't believe I even received a phone call from him. I let My 2 eldest kids spend the weekend with their father and didn't receive a phone call from them either. I spent the day with my Mum and my youngest 2 children. IT was s lovely peaceful day and we went to the steam train museum; they had a special Mothers's day treat on. But as much as it can get stressful with all my family bickering on my special day, it is actually worse NOT to have them with me at all. So I'll take what I can get.

Overhauling the blog - and other matters

I have decided to add new pages and change the look of the blog .... please drop by in a few more days and check out the progress.

I am also creating a secondary website as I probably won't be able to recover my original website; so I will have to start all over again and salvage what i can from facebook etc.

Other projects I am working on:

I am also updating TJ's website in time for his next ride (May 10).

I will begin promoting my TMP clients very soon..... by wearing their shirts and showcasing their products etc.

I am working on a site and forum for a Dr Who cosplay/fan group.

I am completing a project for the kids affected by the Qld flood and for animals affected by those floods.

I am working on The WAHM Connection membership site too.

Promotional gift bags - update

For a couple of weeks I have been discussing my idea of creating promotional gift bags to take to me to pop culture conventions to hand out to the celebrity guests that I meet and to some of the staff etc. I have been speaking in depth with several lovely ladies that have relevant experience to give some unsight into if this can ve done and how. I have also contacted a couple of  celebrities that may be the recipients of these bags to have them weigh in on the matter.

So with no further ado (and with a little bit of the dramatic) I am revealing the plans for the gift bags.

Supanova (pop vulture convention for the uninitiated lol) will be held in Sydney at the Dome, June 17-19 2011. At this convention there will be 1000's of attendees and quite a number of celebrities (authors, cartoonists, voice actors, actors from the big and small screen). I will already be in attendabce. In the past I have tried to create interest in WAHM gifts for the attendees but people were not interested if 1) they did not know who the guest was 2) they had no interest in the guests even if they knew of them 3) they didn't think their items would be applicable to the guests.

I have given this a lot of thought and have come up with a small promotional gift bag that can be given to a number of the guests. However, these gift bags will be very different to the countless showbags, promo bags, hampers etc that are handed out by other wahm groups etc. Firstly, there is to be no extra paper in the bags (in place of countless biz cards, vouchers and coupons will be a dvd - an interactive biz card as it were). The bags will not be plastic nor will they add to the extra rubbush that is usually generated at these cons. These will be very small, wahm crafted, designer re-usable gift bags. They will be lined to make them even more durable.

Instead of filling them with a mass of wahm created products, which 1) may or may not interest the recipients, 2) may not make it through customs (if they are international guests) and 3) may not fit into their luggage limits - i will be creating a small list of items that i want to include. These will be small sized, easy to use/consume on the weekend and easy to tuck into their luggage if need be.... oh! and must be able to pass through customs with ease.

I have seen the size of some of the gifts that guests can receive so I really think small is the way to go. I am having the bags made by Original Mischief. They will be funky, original, stylish and re-useable. I would like to limit the contents to 4-6 items (not including the dvd). I do not want to specify which products are to go to which celeb as they may have to withdraw due to heath, family or career commitments.... there will be a couple of exceptions and I will clarify this later.

No one will be charged to include their OWN goodies .... and anyone wanting to contribute that doesn't have goodies can sponsor a bag. All businesses will be included on a small gift card or tag, on the dvd and on my relevant websites or blogs (ie here). I cannot guarantee that you will receive any extra business because of this, nor can I gurantee pics of  ALL the recopients with their goodie bags. I will take pics where I can.

I just thought that this could be another way to get your name out. And you just never know what can happen. If the bags are successful at this event I will take them to future events (and possible come up with other things that we can do with them).

I have been told that even including your own goodies in hampers etc can cost money - i have heard from $70 to hundreds of dollars. These events do cost money (and so do putting the bags together) so on advise I will be inviting people to sponsor bags (for $10-$15 each) but I will not charge you to include your own goodies. I cannot accept all goodies though.

I would like to include the following items * small guest soaps, candles, massage oils, choccies, a nice pen and a small puzzle. I have also been advised that items such as tim-tams, small plush aussie animal toys, musk lifesavers and vegemite. I am not a fan on including vegemite but I am open to lifesavers, small packs of tim-tams and small cute aussie toys.

I am taking names of people interested in contributing items from the above list. I always make choccies for James Marsters and will do so again this year. You do not have to contribute enough  of you item for 18 bags. There are no expectations. I do not want to send any one broke. I will not be profitting from these bags; the funds from sponsorship will go towards costs of the bags (and postage), costs for any items i need to buy for the bags, the dvds, gift tags (unless these can be donated) and towards the cost of me being at the event.

For the people wanting to sponsor bags, it was suggested that I take a deposit up front and create a waiting list for future events. Each bag will have a small number of sponsors to give everyone a chance to stand out. You may sponsor one or more bags. I feel that 5 sponsors per bag is more than enough (in fact it may be too many). But I will see how this goes. To cover the cost of the bags and incidentals of the bags i will need a minimum of 20 sponsors.

On the dvd I will have a small promo video (slideshow???) explaining who i am, what i do and who i represent. There will be a list of contributors and donors (with relevant contact details and links). I will also include some info on some other businesses that I represent and I would like to include some interesting wahm newsletters, maybe some ebooks and some other activities. And I think it would be great to include a slideshow showcasing wahm products and some photos of Aussie sites may be good too. I welcome ideas on this too.

If you have questions or want to join in you can contact me here or on

If this is to go ahead it must be finalised by the end of may :)

edited to add: i do not want anything sent to me until i know that we have enough numbers to make this happen..... and it cannot happen without a minimum of 20 sponsors.

extra services from TEEs Me, Please!

I announced this before in an earlier blog post but thought I'd put it in a seperate post. I will be offering businesses that have a TEEs Me, Please! package a lifetime membership package with The WAHM Connection. Plus I can page sit for your facebook business page while you are on holiday or sick; I can submit your site to directories and do shout-outs on your behalf if it is getting too much. Plus I hope to do a day of promotion from your shop or house if you like :D (if I can organise travel expenses somehow).

I have not worn any tees or made any promotional videos for a while as I have had a few techinical problems. I am organising a new camera though and will be ready for more days of promo shortly.

Promotional gift bags/show bags and sample boxes

Ideas for promoting businesses with Tees Me, Please! and The Wahm Connection.

I have a chance to spread the word about out businesses when i attend conventions, such as pop-culture conventions. I want to have a cd-rom business card with information on what tees me please is, some promo videos, vouchers etc from your businesses and some freebies. If I cannot organise the business card sized cd-toms then i could do this with an ordinary dvd/cd -rom.

Promotional giftbags:
I also want to have some cool promotional giftbags that I can distribute to some of the celebrities that I meet .... ideally these would be a resuable bag (a cool fashion accessories or awesome giftbag and perferably not paper or plastic), with cool treats inside from some of out wahm businesses (eg chocolates/sweets, pampering goods, quality novelty gifts, etc). I'd like these to be cool enough that people want to buy them as gifts. If we were to sell these then we would have to decide how to share the profits. I do not want to fill these full of calenders and pens and keyrings - though we could look at an inspirational magnet etc.

Sample boxes:
we could make up samples boxes (eg box of the month club, or kids box, easter box etc). These would be available to buy through the tees me please or the wahm connection site. They could also be used a s fundraisers. I'm trying to work out how to do this. I think if you provide items for the boxes/bags you would received a voucher of the same value to use towards your own purchase of a box or bag. If you donate $20 of samples you would receive $20 voucher to spend on your own box as I don't feel that we can all afford to give away masses of samples and I am not in the position to buy these items from you all. We would then have to decide on how to share the profits. A number of boxes/bags could maybe be gifted to people to help spread the word.

Promo videos:
I will be able to make promo videos soon. I will be able to offer days of promotion from your own house, shop etc. Given that I will have to factor in travel $20 for a day of promo would be impractical so I am looking into how we could do this. Some of the video footage could be used for my upcoming documentaries about wahms but at the moment I do not have any idea of any grants that I could apply for.

I can also make promotional videos whilst at these conventions (who knows, I may be able to get a shot of a celeb or two as well ;) ). Thousands of people attend these conventions and it would be am unusual way to promote our businesses. Rather than sell a day of promo I would be looking for businesses to sponsor the weekend and therefore would not be wearing a tee for each business but would come up with something else. I have an opportunity to attend several of these conventions across australia and it would be great if i could get your name out there too.

Please let me know your thoughts on this :) and i cannot wait until i have my computer problems sorted and my new camera :D

new direction

For a while i have been thinking about the future of TEEs Me, Please! It's not something that I want to give up but lately I've done little more than shout-outs from my facebook page. Yes I've had some valid reasons and also I've been procrastinating.

I love the concept of TEE wearing as a promotional tool. Lately a lot of these businesses have sprung up (or variations of). Due to problems of a technological nature and the fact that my domain name is still in limbo I have done no tee wearing and vary little of anything else. Every time I go to quit though something stops me. I still think that there is a need for a smaller scale, economical version of IWYS ( But I realised there are times that TEE wearing may interfere with some things in my life (eg when I'm cosplaying at a convention); however i still want to promote WAH and small businesses.

I have another venture (the WAHM Connection) that is for WAHs to connect and find resources and support. But I don't want TWC to replace TMP. So what to do? Well TEE wearing can resume once my technical issues are worked out. The videos are another matter; less face it they are at the bottom end of the quality scale and while my editing is improving my technical equipment and personal technique are still lacking. However I love to make slides shows so I'll be laking this for my client's businesses to promote their products.

But I want to do more. I went to a couple of pop culture conventions last year (these would have been a great place to promote WAG businesses but i don't want to hand out business cards that will end up on the bin with all the other promotional material.... which is why I have never suggested promo bags either). Thousands of people attend this conventions (plus there are other types of expos and conventions going on all the time). I do not necessarily want to have a stall (although that would be an idea at relevant expos). At the pop-culture conventions there are celebrities and people give them gifts. I had tried to raise interest in some WAH businesses sending me items to give to these celebs... but what type of gifts esp as they have to be able to get it home and often through customs.

If i were to start filming a weekly or daily show as I have planned the conventions would be a great backdrop; and an unusual way to promote your business because lets face it we all want to promote our businesses.

I'm not a fan of creating more merchandise to promote businesses - there are only so many magnetic calenders that a fridge will hold. Flyers, vouchers and business cards often end up in the bin as do balloons. Pens are handy but often not around when they are needed.

So these many random, jumbled thoughts began to work themselves into a rough idea. I saw a business that was making cool gift bags that are a work of art in themselves. I would like to make up promo bags (show bags) with a difference to handout at various places that I go to spread the word. Instead of dozens of business cards etc I want to hand out the business card size c-d (on that we could put a promo video, an excerpt of the wahm book i am working on, some resources, links to websites and some vouchers etc). When someone wants to know what I do I can hand that out. Or i can slip them in the bags. But what else can we put in the bags that will make them stand out? I want the bags to be an item that people may wish to purchase as well because they are just that great.

Now how do clients get involved? Businesses are being asked to spend money left, right and centre for promotions (hence why I cam up with a promotions package for those not wanting a day of promo or to use with a day of promo) ... or they are being asked to donate items to every cause. So this is something to be worked around.

Also I have become caught up in facebook and using that for most of my promotions.... not good; especially when i was shut out of facebook for a few days. So i will be looking hard at where I promote businesses online. I still say that if the site is kept up-to-date and i promote the site itself the client businesses will benefit.

I would like to offer client businesses a page sitting service for when clients go on holiday or are sick; this will be part of the promotions package (which I am restructuring). I also think that many businesses spend ages posting on other sites about their page. Again this is something that i could do for client businesses (not on all pages off course but on several relevant pages).

I'd like to see the TMP fan page and website be a place where people can post their questions about businesses, and services they are looking for etc. I'd like to have a directory of promotional resources for those that want to know their options for promoting their business. I'd also like to link up with promotional resources business so that my clients can be offered discounts for their promotional needs. I don't want to become a mechanising company myself..... but i should at least be able to send people in the right direction if they want to purchase promotional resources.

So to sum up.... I want to concentrate less on tee wearing and videos for now... instead concentrating on slideshows, a show, the documentary and book and look at how much more I can promote my clients.... in a way that will make them stand out. I have an opportunity to expose businesses to new audiences and I want to see how we can approach business promotions in a whole new way.

It's february

It's February and there has been no tee wearing. This has been for several reasons - mostly as I have lost my website and because of technical difficulties - plus i took a month off to enjoy the children and re-evaulate things.

TEEs Me, Please! has a lot of potential but there have been a lot of problems too. I'm not one to throw in the towel easily but at the same time I don't wish to keep butting my head against a wall; so for the moment we are at a stand still.
